Aircraft History Built by Douglas. Constructor Number 15205. Manufacture Number 26650. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47B-15-DK Skytrain serial number 43-49389. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to New Zealand as part of defense aid. Wartime History On December 30, 1944 delivered to the Royal New Zelaand Air Force (RNZAF) as C-47B Dakota serial number NZ3529. BOC by Unit 19 at Whenuapai Airfield. Assigned to No. 40 Squadron. No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On July 6, 1945 during take off from Bomber 1 (Palikulo Field) on Espirito Santo swung off the runway as it became airborne and crashed into scrub that tore off both main landing gear legs.
