Lockheed C-40 519 wreckage by P-40E Warhawk #32 pilot 2nd Lt. J. W. Tyler at Batchelor Field near Darwin
During the accident, wreckage from the crash including possibly the P-40's wheel struck Brigadier General Harold H. George in the head and chest causing severe injuries. Two others standing nearby were instantly killed including war correspondent Melville Jacoby and 2nd Lt. Robert D. Jasper driving the jeep sent to pick them up.
