Aircraft History Built by Lockheed in Burbank as a Model 12 (L-12) Electra Junior. Construction Number 1257. On February 22, 1939 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Corps (USAAC) as C-40A Electra Junior serial number 38-540 at Kelley Field in Texas. During March 1938 operated from Barksdale Field in Louisiana. In July 1939 based at Maxwell Field in Alabama. In October 1939 based at Selfridge Field in Illinois. During March 1940 operated from Wright Field in Ohio. In April 1940 assigned to the Headquarters of the 27th Pursuit Squadron at Selfridge Field. On June 20, 1941 became the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF). During September 1941 assigned to Mitchell Field to the 1st Air Force (1st AF). In January 1943 redesignated UC-40A Electra Junior. During February 1943 damage when a tractor collided with the plane while parked. Afterwards, repaired and in March 1943 based at the Alabama Air Depot in Mobile, Alabama. In October 1944 assigned to the 343rd Base Army Air Field at Brookley Army Air Field in Alabama. Later assigned to Key Army Air Field in Mississippi. On January 19, 1945 at Bush Field in Augusta, Georgia and stricken off charge and offered for sale as surplus. Postwar, sold to Brazil and registered as PP-PBV. Next, returned to the United States and registered as NC970, N970, N93L and finally N93R. During 1990 restored with a natural finish with tail code 93-20P with a red and white stripes on the rudder with a blue vertical line on both sides of the tail. Display During 1998, acquired by Yanks Air Museum. This Electra Junior was restored to airworthy condition completed in l 2006 and is displayed at the museum. References USAF Serial Number Search Results - C-40A 38-540 "540 (MSN 1257) to PP-PBV, NC970, N970, N93L, N93R, still current. In restoration hangar at Yanks Air Museum, Chino, CA marked as 38-540.
