Aircraft History Built by Grumman Corporation in Bethpage, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as F4F Wildcat bureau number unknown. Possibly, assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC). Mission History This Wildcat took off from Oahu on a training mission. During the flight, ditched into the sea off the leeward coast of southwest Oahu. Possibly, due to an accidental collision with a towed target. The precise identity of this aircraft is unknown. During the Pacific War, a total of 58 F4F Wildcats were lost off Oahu. Wreckage During 1973, discovered by SCUBA divers off Nanakuli Beach on southwest Oahu. On November 24, 1982 after Hurricane Iwa, sea surge likely moved and damaged the plane. Nearby is the wreckage of F6F Hellcat. References Thanks to Blade Shepherd-Jones for additional information Contribute
