Aircraft History Built by Grumman Corporation in Bethpage, New York. Delivered to the U. S. Navy (USN) or U.S. Marine Corps (USMC). Likely an F4F-4 Wildcat bureau number unknown. Wartime History During the Pacific War or in the immediate postwar period, this aircraft was one of two Wildcat fuselages dumped near Roi-Namur, between North Pass and Mellu Island. Prior to dumping, both aircraft were stripped of usable parts and had their engines removed. Wreckage The two fuselage are on a 90' bottom, a few yards apart. The fuselages appear undamaged.
