Built by Vought. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as F4U-1 Corsair bureau number 02421. Disassembled and shipped overseas to the South Pacific (SoPAC) and reassembled.

Wartime History
Assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC), 1st Marine Air Wing (MAW-1), Marine Air Group 12 (MAG-12), Marine Fighting Squadron 213 "Hell Hawks" VMF-213. No known nickname or markings.

Mission History
On July 17, 1943 took off from the Russell Islands piloted by Captain Foy R. Garrison on a mission to escort B-24 Liberators plus U.S. Navy (USN) and U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) dive bombers attacking shipping off Buin on southern Bougainville. Over the target, engaged by enemy fighters. This aircraft was last seen over the target area. When this aircraft failed to return it was officially listed as Missing In Action (MIA).
