Aircraft History Built by Chance Vought Aircraft Division in Stratford, Connecticut. Constructors Number 9484. During 1945, delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as F4U-4 Corsair bureau number 97330. This aircraft was assigned to Aerial Engineering Squadron 12 (AES 12) base at MCAS Quantico, VA. Afterwards, overhauled at NAS Quonset Point, RI. On March 6, 1951 assigned to Fighting Squadron 42 (VF-42) aboard USS Saipan (CVL-48). Afterwards, assigned to Fighting Squadron 43 (VF-43) at NAS Cecil Field and later NAS Norfolk. Next, overhauled at NAS San Diego then assigned Naval Air Reserve Training Command, (NART) at NAS Olathe and NAS Grosse Ile with fuselage code N5. In July 1956 placed into outdoor storage at NAS Litchfield Park in AZ. This aircraft was destined to be sold to the Fuerza Aérea Hondureña (Honduran Air Force) but the sale was never completed. During November 1957 sold to Robert Bean in Hereford, AZ. Registered in the United States as N5222V. In 1959 stored outdoors at Moseley Field in Phoenix, AZ, 1959-1969. During 1973 stored disassembled at Tucson Airport in Arizona. During 1975 sold to William Barnes of Lancaster, CA who restored the aircraft to airworthy condition. In 1984 sold to Shouling M. Barnes, of Lancaster, CA. Next in 1985 purchased by Jack A. Erickson / Erickson Air Crane Company in Medford, OR. On August 2, 1991 suffered an engine failure and fire when it struck a tree, the pilot bailed out and this Corsair crashed in Chilquin, OR. In 1993 the wreckage was purchased by Craig M. McBurney / Bootstrap Aircraft in Boca Raton, FL. On January 4, 1995 registration N912CM was reserved for this aircraft. Later, renamed Connecticut Corsair and the aircraft was moved to a hanger at Chester Airport in Chester, CT and under restoration by volunteers estimating that roughly 30% of the aircraft will be newly manufactured.
