Pilot Lt(jg) Clayton Potter, Jr., O-125118 (USNR) (MIA / KIA) PA MIA September 11, 1943 Aircraft History Built by Grumman as model G-50 in Bethpage, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as F6F-3 Hellcat bureau number 25902. Wartime History Assigned to Fighting Squadron 33 (VF-33). No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On September 11, 1943 took off from Munda Airfield piloted by Lt(jg) Clayton Potter, Jr. on a mission to escort B-24D Liberators on a bombing mission against Kahilli Airfield on southern Bougainville. Over the target, the Hellcats intercept Japanese fighters and went Missing In Action (MIA). Memorials Potter was officially declared dead on January 9, 1946. He is memorialized at Manila American Cemetery on the tablets of the missing.
