Built by Grumman in Bethpage, New York as model G-50. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as F6F-5 Hellcat bureau number 71061.

Wartime History
Assigned to USS Yorktown (CV-10) to Fighting Squadron 3 " (VF-3). Squadron Number 39. No known nickname or nose art.

Mission History
On December 16, 1944 launched from USS Yorktown (CV-10) piloted by Lt. Marsall S. Hopp as part of Flight #2, Strike 1C as one of twelve Hellcats on a strike over Luzon in the Philippines. This Hellcat ditched into Laguna de Bay and the pilot was rescued by Filipinos and later returned to duty.
