Aircraft History Built by Kawanishi Kokuki K. K. at Naruo. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Type 97 Large Flying Boat / H6K Mavis. This flying boat was either model H6K4 or H6K5. Wartime History Assigned to an unknown Kōkūtai (Air Group). No known markings. This Mavis was reportedly sunk February 1, 1942 off Ebeye Island. Wreckage This Mavis was discovered in 1965 on the lagoon side west of Ebeye Island. The wreckage is upside down at a depth of 80' with considerable damage from strafing but the fuselage is relatively intact. The dive site is undesirable dive due to nearby raw sewage outlets.
