Aircraft History Built by Kawanishi at Konan Plant in Kobe. At the factory, painted with green upper surfaces and gray lower surfaces. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Type 2 Flying Boat / H8K2 Emily manufacture number unknown. Assigned to an unknown Kōkūtai (Air Group). No known markings. Tail number 13 in white. Wartime History This Emily was burned and sunk into shallow water at the edge of Simpson Harbor at Rabaul. Wreckage During September 1945 after the Japanese surrendered the Rabaul area, the wreckage of this Emily remained including the burnt fuselage and wings in shallow water. When the Allies occupied Rabaul, the wreckage of this Emily was photographed by the Australian Army. The tail number was visible. The fuselage had evidence of fire damage and the engines were removed or missing. Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
