Japanese aircraft wreckage piled on the shore near Rabaul. Visible is a G4M1 Betty left wing upper side with the the Hinomaru (Rising Sun). At the right is the fuselage of a D3A Val dive bomber. The wreckage pile includes the cockpit section and tail turret from a Betty, Zero center sections and another Val center section at the center left, drop tank, engines and a bomb trolley. (Lower center) F1M2 Pete fuselage with tail 58- with the rudder missing from 958 Kōkūtai (958 Air Group) below is a stenciled "9". The rear fuselage has a vertical white stripe and the fuselage Hinomaru (Rising Sun) is outlined with a border. Both cockpits have the flight instruments and gauges removed. The upper surfaces dark green paint is worn from sun exposure and is beginning to expose gray exterior primer paint or bare aluminum below.
