Aircraft History Built by Polikarpov Design Bureau during 1938. At the factory, painted with dark green upper surfaces. Assigned to the Voenno-Vozdushnye Sily (VSS) Soviet Air Force as И-15bis Чайка / I-15 Chaika serial number 3994. Wartime History Likely assigned to the Northern Front Air Force, 145th Assault Air Regiment. No known markings or tail code. Mission History This I-15bis crashed near Karelia in northern Russia. Wreckage In the 1990s, the wreckage of this I-15bis was recovered. The plane was restored to flying condition by Aviarestoration in Novosibirsk, Siberia. Display During 2001, flown at a Moscow airshow. Later, to the United States. Later, purchased by Gerald Yagen of the Fighter Factory and shipped to Virginia. On February 5, 2019 registered in the United States as N3815R to Training Services Inc. Displayed at Military Aviation Museum. The I-15bis has tail number 7 in red outlined in white.
