Aircraft History
Built by Polikarpov Design Bureau at Gorky Aircraft Plant No. 21 as Type 24 during 1939. At the factory, painted with dark green upper surfaces. Assigned to the Voenno-Vozdushnye Sily (VSS) Soviet Air Force as И-16 Ishak / I-16 Donkey serial number 2421028.

Wartime History
Likely, assigned to the 155th Istrebitel'nyy Aviatsionnyy Polk (155th IAP) / 155th Fighter Aviation Regiment. No known markings or tail code.

Mission History
During 1941 or 1942, this I-16 crashed in Karelia in northern Russia.

Display
n 1991, recovered and restored to flying condition. Purchased by Gerald Yagen of the Fighter Factory and shipped to Virginia. On December 17, 2018 registered in the United States as N1639P to Training Services Inc. Displayed at the Military Aviation Museum. Painted in the markings of "White 28" with a large 28 on the fuselage in white assigned 4GvIAP to pilot Mikhail J. Vasiliev.
