Aircraft History Built by Mitsubishi at Dotokua plant during September 1943. At the factory, painted overall gray. Delivered to the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF) as Type 100 Command Reconnaissance Aircraft Shinshitei / Ki-46-II Dinah manufacture number 5004. Wartime History Assigned to an unknown unit. No known tail number or markings. Misison History On December 26, 1943 crashed at Urafi, near Haridaspur in India. Wreckage This aircraft was vistied by Allied intelligence inspectors after the crash. Parts were recoverd and sent to the U.S. for metallurgical tests. Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared. Jim Long adds: "The metallurgical testing was written up in TAIC Report #27, January 1944. Pieces of three different planes were reported on in this one document in an unsatisfactory way." References Production figures of the Mitsubishi Ki.46 by Jim Long USSBS report (incorrectly) counts the fourth Ki-46-III (MN 5004) as built in August 1943. TAIC Report #27, January 1944 Allied crash intelligence inspectors reported that the plane's assembly date was September 1943, information apparently gathered from the crashed airplane's nameplates.
