Aircraft History Built by Lockheed. Constructor Number 18-2123. This aircraft was sold to the Netherlands East Indies Air Force (NEIAF) as Lodestar LT9-19 (LT-919). Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Assigned to the Allied Directorate of Air Transport (ADAT) with Australian registration VH-CAG. Wartime History Assigned to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-56B Loadstar serial number 42-68355. Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 374th Troop Carrier Group (374th TCG), 22nd Troop Carrier Squadron (22nd TCS). No known nickname or nose art. On August 17, 1942 while parked at 7 Mile Drome near Port Moresby there was no advanced warning of a Japanese air raid against 7 Mile Drome by G4M1 Bettys from 4th Kōkūtai (4th Air Group) and Misawa Kokutai (Misawa Air Group) escorted by A6M2 Zeros from Tainan Kōkūtai (Tainan Air Group). This Lodestar was destroyed on the ground by Japanese bombs. Officially condemned on August 31, 1944.
