Aircraft History Built by Lockheed. Constructors Number 18-2127. This aircraft was sold to the Netherlands East Indies Air Force (NEIAF) as Lodestar LT9-23 (LT-923). Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Assigned to the Allied Directorate of Air Transport (ADAT) with call sign VH-CAI. Wartime History Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-56B Lodestar serial number 42-68355. Assigned to the 5th Air Force, 374th Troop Carrier Group, 22nd Troop Carrier Squadron. No known nickname or nose art. On August 17, 1942 parked at 7 Mile Drome near Port Moresby. There was no advanced warning of a Japanese air raid against 7 Mile Drome by G4M1 Betty bombers from the 4th Kokutai and Misawa Kokutai escorted by A6M2 Zeros from the Tainan Kokutai. Destroyed on the ground by Japanese bombs. Officially condemned on August 31, 1944.
