Aircraft History Built by Kawanishi at Himeji sometime between August 13, 1944 to October 16, 1944. The propeller was installed on September 15, 1944. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as N1K1-J Model 11 Shiden (George) manufacture number 7102. Painted with green upper surfaces and gray lower surfaces. Wartime History Assigned to 341 Kōkūtai (341 Air Group), Sento Hikotai 402 (S-402). Tail code 341-S23 in yellow (the S represented Sento Hikotai). By late January 1945 abandoned at Clark Field. Wreckage On January 30, 1945 captured by the U.S. Army at Clark Field. This aircraft was studied by Technical Air Intelligence Unit - South West Pacific Area (TAIU-SWPA). Repaired with the paint removed to a bare aluminum finish with a U.S. star and bar insigina on the fuselage and wings. The tail had red and white stripes on the rudder with TAIC-SWPA tail code S9 in black with "Technical Air Intelligence Unit SWPA" in black block letters below. During April 1945, flight tested at Clark Field with the underwing guns removed emulate the configuation of the later model N1K2-J Shiden-Kai (George 22). After testing or in the immediate post war period, this plane was scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
