IJN ? Kōkūtai |
Aircraft History Built by Showa Aircraft Co., Ltd as the only N1K2 completed during August 1945 and was the only Shiden-Kai built by the company. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as N1K2-J Model 21 Shiden-Kai (George) manufacture number unknown. Wartime History Likely, this plane was not assigned to a Kōkūtai (Air Group) before the end of the Pacific War. In early September 1945 surrendered to American occupation forces in the hanger of Showa Aircraft Co., Ltd. Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared. References FAOW No. 53, pages 56-57 Jim Long adds: "Three other photos of that very plane are printed in FAOW No. 53, pages 56-57. These are post-war photos taken in a hangar at the Showa Aircraft Co., Ltd. Showa assembled only one plane before the end of the war. I believe that the USSBS report on the Showa Company says it was completed during August 1945." Thanks to Jim Long for additional information Contribute
