Aircraft History
Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank in December 1943 as the seventh P-38-15 built. Purchased under contract number A-35374. Construction Number 422-2819. On December 29, 1943 accepted and available to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF). On December 30, 1943 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-38J-15-LO Lightning serial number 42-103985. Project Number 96397-R.
On December 31, 1943 flown to Palm Springs Army Airfield. On January 3, 1944 flown to Tuscon. On January 4, 1944 flown to Dallas Love Field and underwent modification at the Dallas Modification Center to add leading edge fuel tanks. On January 12, 1944 arrives Oakland and disassembled and loaded as cargo then shipped across the Pacific and reassembled.
Wartime History
Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF). No known nickname, nose art or markings. Ultimate fate unknown, not lost on a combat mission or accident. Likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
