Enlargement of pilot and crew chief names and victory flags on the nose of P-38F "Thumper" 42-12644
On the left side of the nose is "PILOT - J.H. LANE" with four Japanese rising sun flags indicating aerial victory claims by 2nd Lt. John H. Lane. The first on December 31, 1942, the second and third January 8, 1943 (double victory) and March 3, 1943. Below is "CREW CHIEF" SGT. GRUMMAN".
