2nd Lt. Kenneth C. Sparks atop the right wing of P-38F Lightning 42-12652 inspects damage
The right aileron and wing tip were damaged when a "Zero" (sic Ki-43-I Oscar pilot Hasegawa) collided with his P-38 over Lae. Despite the damage, Sparks managed to land at 14-Mile (Schwimmer Drome) near Port Moresby.
