Enlargement of P-38H "Charlcie Jeann" 42-66516 with Captain James A. Watkins at Horanda Airfield (Dobodura No. 4)
The left side of the nose has a white tip with nose number (squadron number) 84 and constructors number 1027 with the nickname "Charlcie Jeann" and a in an old English style font. Painted on the left side of the cockpit was "Lt. J. A. Watkins" for pilot Captain James A. Watkins with a black rectangle with a scoreboard of Japanese rising sun flags (5x5x1) representing his eleven aerial victory claims as of August 2, 1943. Based on the scoreboard and date of loss, this photograph was taken sometime between August 2, 1943 when he claimed his ninth, tenth and eleventh victory claiming three Oscars over Teliata Point near Saidor until October 13, 1943 when lost in bad weather piloted by 1st Lt. Theron D. Price and went Missing In Action (MIA).
