P-38H 42-66532 left side of the nose parked in New Guinea
The left side of the cockpit has "Maj. T. J. Lynch" for Major Thomas J. Lynch with his scoreboard of Japanese rising sun flags (2x8) indicating sixteen aerial victory claims between May 20, 1942 to September 16, 1943. In the foreground at upper left is one of the propeller blades and at the upper right is the edge of the left engine cowling. This photograph was taken sometime between September 16, 1943 when Lynch claimed his sixteenth aerial victory and before November 13, 1943 when this aircraft went Missing In Action (MIA) piloted by 1st Lt. Lee C. Haigler for an escort mission against Rabaul.
