The serial stencil reads: "U.S. Army P-38H-1-LO Air Forces Ser. 42-66532 crew weight 200 lbs". At the far right are five of sixteen Japanese rising sun flags indicating sixteen aerial victory claims between May 20, 1942 to September 16, 1943. This photograph was taken sometime between September 16, 1943 when Lynch claimed his sixteenth aerial victory and before November 13, 1943 when this aircraft went Missing In Action (MIA) piloted by 1st Lt. Lee C. Haigler for an escort mission against Rabaul.
