Aircraft History Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-38H-5-LO Lightning serial number 42-66839. Disassembled and shipped overseas and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 475th Fighter Group (475th FG), 433rd Fighter Squadron (433rd FS). No known nickname or nose art. On October 24, 1943 took off piloted by 1st Lt. Herbert W. Cochran on an escort mission over Vunakanau Airfield near Rabaul. Over the target, he was credited with his first aerial victory against a Zero. Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
