Aircraft History Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank. Constructors Number 1793. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-38J-5-LO Lightning serial number 42-67282. Disassembled and shipped overseas to the South Pacific (SoPAC) and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 475th Fighter Group (475th FG) "Satan's Angles", 433rd Fighter Squadron (433rd FS) "Possum". Squadron Number 172 in white on the nose and tail. Nicknamed "Penny". Assigned to pilot 1st Lt. Alan N Sidnam. In the middle of March 1944, modified by the 482nd Service Squadron to add wing leading edge fuel tanks.
