Aircraft History Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank. Constructors Number 322-3305. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-38G-13-LO Lightning serial number 43-2196. Disassembled with both outer wings removed and shipped overseas to Townsville. After being unloaded, towed by a jeep via Boundary Road then across Sandy Crossing to Depot No. 2 at Garbutt Field then reassembled and flight tested. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 49th Fighter Group (49th FG), 9th Fighter Squadron (9th FS) "The Flying Knights". No known nickname, nose art or squadron number. Mission History On October 10, 1943 took off from Horanda Drome (Dobodura) pilot unknown and suffered an engine failure and crashed. Afterwards, written off. Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
