P-38G Lightning 43-2201 right engine propeller blade with serial number "3-2201"parked at 3 Mile Drome (Kila) near Port Moresby
The lower propeller blade of the right engine has stenciled "3-2201" (upside down) the abbreviated serial number of the aircraft: 43-2201. The aircraft has lines are tape marks from cosmoline used to protect the aircraft when shipped from the United States to Australia.
On August 20, 1943 pilot 2nd Lt. Earl W. Smith took off P-38G Lightning 43-2201 that crashed 300 yards off Paga Point and was listed as Missing In Action (MIA).
