Aircraft History Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank. Constructors Number 322-3390. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-38G-13-LO Lightning Serial Number 43-2281. Disassembled and shipped across the Pacific to the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) and unloaded in Australia and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF). According to the Individual Aircraft Record Card (IARC) for this aircraft, it was "CON MISS EA" (Condemned Missing, Enemy Aircraft) August 24, 1943 indicating this plane was shot down over enemy territory on a combat mission. Often the condemned date was several days after the actual date of loss. Possibly, this aircraft was one of three P-38 Lightnings from the 8th Fighter Group (8th FG), 80th Fighter Squadron (80th FS) "Headhunters" Missing In Action (MIA) August 21, 1943 on an escort mission over Wewak and might be associated with P-38 pilot Feehan (MIA), P-38 pilot Guttel (MIA) or P-38 pilot Krisher (MIA).
