Aircraft History Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-38 Lightning model and serial number unknown. This aircraft was possibly a P-38G model or P-38H model. Disassembled and shipped overseas to the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 475th Fighter Group (475th FG) "Satan's Angels", 432nd Fighter Squadron (432nd FS) "Clover". Squadron Number 147 painted on both sides of the nose. Assigned to pilot Captain Henry L. Condon, II. Nicknamed "Condon's Cans" with the nose art of a topless brunette woman kneeling with only panties and her hands behind her back. On the left side of nose below the cockpit were two Japanese flags indicating Condon's first two aerial victory claims on September 27, 1943 and September 30, 1943. The ultimate fate of this aircraft is unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared. Memorials On January 2, 1945 Condon was killed piloting P-38L "Put Put Maru III" 44-24843 two miles west of Bignay on Luzon. In total he was an ace credited with five aerial victories. Condon was promoted to the rank of Major and earned the Purple Heart, posthumously. He is buried at Rosemere Cemetery in Opelika, Alabama.
