USAAF 5th AF 6th PRG HQ Squadron

Aircraft History Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank. At the factory, completed with an unpainted aluminum finish with olive drab on the upper nose and inner sides of the engine nacelles for anti-glare. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as F-5 Lightning model and serial number unknown. Likely, an F-5E Lightning, the photographic reconnaissance version of the P-38L Lightning. Disassembled and shipped overseas to the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 6th Photographic Reconnaissance Group (6th PRG), Headquarters Squadron (HQ). Assigned to pilot Lt. Col. Ben K. Armstrong with crew chief TSgt V. J. Meicher. Nicknamed "Harriett" inside double quotations in a cursive font with a white shadow and star for the dot with a photograph of his girlfriend inside a painted frame with a black shadow.
