Aircraft History Built by Bell in Buffalo, New York under USAAF Contract AC156. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF). Disassembled and loaded as cargo aboard SS Stephen Fields and shipped across the Pacific to Brisbane arriving on August 15 1942 and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 8th Fighter Group (8th FG), 35th Fighter Squadron (35th FS). Assiigned to pilot 2nd Lt. Thomas R. Jemison with crew chief Lyle. No known nickname or nose art. Squadron letter "J". Flown to 7 Mile Drome near Port Moresby. This Airacobra and flew combat missions from Port Moresby and later Milne Bay. Ultimate fate unknown, likely written off and scrapped. Wreckage During 2017, parts reportedly from this aircraft were offered for sale as a "project" by Australian Tristan Masterson of Bolwarra, NSW. Possilbly, this wreckage was recovered by '75 Squadron' from Papua New Guinea (PNG) and exported to Melbourne, Australia during the late 1990s or early 2000s then provided to Masterson to sell online. The current owner or whereabouts of these parts is unknown.
