Aircraft History Built by Bell in Buffalo, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Army. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force, 35th Fighter Group, 41st Fighter Squadron. No known nose art or nickname. Operated in New Guinea. Abandoned at Tsili-Tsili Airfield. Wreckage Until 1973, this Airacobra remained in situ in a saksak swamp near Tsili-Tsili Airfield. Salvage During September 1973, recovered by Monty Armstrong for Yesterday's Air Force. Storage Exported to the United States and stored at Yesterday's Air Force / Military Aircraft Restoration Corporation (MARC) at Chino Airport. Until at least 1988, this Airacobra remained in storage.
