(Far Left) Unknown (Left to right) 2nd Lt. Edwin A. Schneider, Passaic, NY, 2nd Lt. Lee R. Taylor of Kansas City, MO, 1st Lt. William William F. McDonough of Temple City, California and 1st Lt. Robert W. Shirk (Shick) of Modesto, CA. On February 6, 1943 these pilots escorted C-47s bound for Wau Airfield and encountered a Japanese formation of bombers and fighters. During the air combat, 40th Fighter Squadron (40th FS) pilots claimed eight Japanese planes including 2 claimed by McDonough, 2 claimed by Shirk and 1 claimed by Taylor.
