Pilot Lt. John D. Livingstone (KIA, BR) Harrison County, WV Crashed April 4, 1942 MACR none Aircraft History Built by Curtiss in Buffalo, New York as as model H87-A4. Constructors Number 658. Originally intended for the Royal Air Force (RAF) with serial number ET197. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-40E-1 Warhawk serial number 41-24873. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force, 49th Fighter Group (49th FG), 9th Fighter Squadron (9th FS) "The Flying Knights". No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On April 4, 1942 took off from 34 Mile Drome near Darwin piloted by Lt. John D. Livingstone and crashed during take off killing the pilot. Memorials After the crash, Livingstone's remains were recovered and buried at Adelaide River War Cemetery at Row 4 Grave 116.
