Memorial marker for Oswald John Channon on his parents grave in Manly Cemetery section CC, plot 035
His epitaph reads: "Also Pilot Officer Oswald J. Channon a loved only son and bother Killed In Action at Port Moresby 24-4-42. Age 24. How can a man die better than facing fearful odds for the honor of his country and the glory of his gods." On April 24, 1942 pilot P-40E Kittyhawk A29-43 shot down and crashed near Porebada west of Port Moresby.
