Pilot F/O Raymond Edward Barker, 405711 (survived) Force Landed May 4, 1944 Aircraft History Built by Curtiss in Buffalo, New York. Constructors Number 29472. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-40N-5-CU Warhawk serial number 42-105710. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Wartime History During September 1943, delivered to the Royal Australia Air Force (RAAF) as P-40N Kittyhawk serial number A29-528. Assigned to15 ARD reserve pool. On March 9, 1944 assigned to No. 78 Squadron with code HU-V. Later, renumbered P-40N Kittyhawk serial number A29-1134. Mission History On May 4, 1944 took off piloted by F/O Raymond E. Barker on a misison. This P-40 force landed and ran off the end of the Tadji Airfield. Afterwards this plane was written off. Wreckage Until 1974, the wreckage of this Kittyhawk remained in situ at Tadji Airfield. During 1974, the fuselage was recovered by Charles Darby and Monty Armstrong in a recovery operation funded by David Tallichet of Yesterday's Air Force. The fuselage was moved to the beach and shipped to the United States. Storage This Kittyhawk fuselage was placed into storage at Yesterday's Air Force. During 1989 reportedly in storage at Barstow Airport. The location today unknown.
