Pilot F/O Alfred Evans Watts, 424486 (rescued) Crashed August 30, 1944 Aircraft History Built by Curtiss in Buffalo, New York. Constructors Number 30747. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-40N-20-CU Warhawk serial number 43-22808. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Wartime History During November 1943, delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Kittyhawk serial number A29-610. Assigned to 80 Squadron, no known nickname or nose art. Mission History On August 30, 1944 took off from Kamiri Airfield on Noemfoor Island on a mission over Babo Airfield. Following the attack, this aircraft crashed into sea off Babo. Pilot Watts bailed out and landed unhurt. Fate of the Pilot Afterwards, Watts was rescued by a PBY Catalina and returned to duty.
