Pilot W/O Peter Gerald Schlencker, 405883 (MIA / KIA) Ondooroopilly, QLD MIA October 14, 1944 Aircraft History Built by Curtis in Buffalo, New York. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-40N-25-CU Warhawk serial number 43-24317. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia. Wartime History During May 1944 delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Kittyhawk serial number A29-824. Reassembled by 1 Air Depot (1 AD). On June 19, 1944 assigned to No. 77 Squadron. No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On October 14, 1944 took off on a bombing mission over Manokwari and failed to return. When this aircraft failed to return, it was officially listed as Missing In Action (MIA). Search Despite intensive searches he was never found. Memorials Schlencker was officially declared dead the day of the mission. He is memorialized on the Lae Memorial at Lae War Cemetery on panel 6.
