Location Lat 0° 52' 0S Long 134° 4' 60E Manokwari is located on the eastern end of the Vogelkop Peninsula in Western New Guinea. Also known as Manokwari Town or spelled Menoekwari. Borders Bore Bay to the south with Wappi Island (Mos Wappi) and Mansinairo Island (Mos Mansinairo). Prewar and during the Pacific War, located in Dutch New Guinea (DNG) in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located Manokwari is the capital of the Manokwari Regency of West Papua Province in Indonesia. Wartime History During 1942 Manokwari was occupied by the Japanese Army until the end of the Pacific War. The Japanese used the town, harbor and constructed Manokwari Airfield. Between May 1943 until October 1944 attacked by Allied bombers and fighters. American missions against Manokwari May 1, 1943–October 24, 1944 Manokwari Airfield Built by the Japanese, still in use today.
