Location
The Vogelkop Peninsula is located at the northwestern end of New Guinea. Named by the Dutch, Vogelkop meaning "Bird's Head". Also known as the "Bird's Head Peninsula". In Indonesian known as Kepala Burung. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Dutch New Guinea (DNG) in the Netherlands
East Indies (NEI). Today located in the Sorong Regency of West Papua Province in Indonesia.
Borders Geelvink Bay (Cenderawasih Bay) to the east and Bentoni Bay (Bintuni Bay) and beyond the Bomberai Peninsula to the south and the Dampier Strait and Waigeo Island to the west and Raja Ampat Islands and Batanta Island off the northwest. The Vogelkop Peninsula includes Cape Waios, Sorong, Manokwari (Menoekwari), Sansapor and Mar.
