Location Waigeo Island is located in the Raja Ampat Group (Raja Ampat Islands). In Indonesian known as Pulau Waigeo. The island is rougly 70 miles long and 30 miles wide. Located at the center of the north coast is Fofak Harbor (Offak Harbor, Teluk Fofak). To the south is Dampier Strait (Augusta's Strait). Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Between 1963-2002 part of Irian Jaya. Today located in the Raja Ampat Regency in West Papua Province (Papua Barat) in Indonesia. Wartime History During the middle of August 1917, German Raider SMS Wolf (Wolf IV) and captured vessel SS Matunga arrived at Fofak Harbor (Offak Harbor) where the vessel was stripped and cargo removed before it was scuttled a few miles out to sea on August 26, 1917. /44-33878.html">OA-10A Catalina 44-33878 Pilot Dickinson force landed October 1, 1944 repaired and flown back to base American missions against Waigeo Island June 6, 1944–August 9, 1944 References Pub. 164 Sailing Direction (Enroute) New Guinea page 101-104 Contribute
