Aircraft History Built by Bell in Buffalo, New York. Contract DA-42-4801 for defense aid. Constructors Number 14-306. Assigned Royal Air Force (RAF) serial number BW114 and painted in a three-color camouflage scheme. On December 25, 1941 received from Bell in Buffalo, NY the same day flown to Memphis, TN then cross country to San Francisco and disassembled. On February 19, 1942 assigned to "Project X" and shipped as cargo overseas to Australia and reassembled. Wartime History On April 15, 1942 assigned to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF), 5th Air Force (5th AF) and retained the RAF serial number and camouflage scheme and fin flash. Tail number 266. Loaned to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and used as a training aid at Laverton Field. By February 10, 1943 this Aircobra was damaged or wrecked. On April 1, 1944 condemned and written off.
