Location Lat 37° 51' 49S Long 144° 44' 46E Laverton Airfield is located at an elevation of 18' above sea level in the suburb of Laverton southwest of Melbourne in Victoria in Australia. Also known as RAAF Station Laverton and RAAF Base Laverton or Laverton Field. Today part of RAAF Base Williams as RAAF Williams, Laverton Base. Construction Built prewar by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as an air depot and repair facility. Wartime History Used by Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as a training and maintenance base known as the Laverton Repair Depot. During the early stages of the Pacific War, used by the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress bombers. Allied units based at Laverton Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) 21st Squadron No. 1 Aircraft Performance Unit 79 Squadron (Spitfire) formed April 26, 1946–middle April 1943 departs Wooloomanata U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) 4th Air Depot Group (4th ADG) 43rd BG, 13th RS / 403rd BS (B-17) Melbourne arrives Mach 14, 1942–August 27, 1942 departs Torrents Creek Postwar Laverton is no longer used for operational flying. For administrative purposes it was merged with the RAAF Base Point Cook (Point Cook Airfield) as RAAF Base Williams. Today, known as RAAF Williams, Laverton Base. Airport Code: ICAO: YLVT.
