P-47D Thunderbolt with 1st Lt. Ralph H. Wandrey in the cockpit parked at Gusap Airfield in New Guinea
The aircraft has a black rectangle with "1st Lt. R. H. Wandrey" and his scoreboard including five Japanese rising sun flags indicating his five aerial victory claims and "ace" status. This photograph to sometime between November 1943 early March 1944 when he claimed his sixth victory on March 13, 1944. Later, this photograph was signed by Ralph H. Wandrey. In the background is a parked B-25 Mitchell and beyond the mountains at the edge of the Ramu Valley.
