Aircraft History Built by Lockheed in Burbank. Lockheed Constructors Number 080-1050. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-80A-1-LO Shooting Star serial number 44-85027. In early August 1945, photographed at Burbank Airfield with Lockheed test pilot James "Jimmie" J. Mattern and Major Richard I. Bong. In 1946, assigned to pilot Major Robin Olds. Nicknamed "Scat-X" as his tenth assigned aircraft. Fuselage code PN-027, the last three digits of the serial number and a red tail tip. On September 1, 1946 this jet was flown in the Thompson Trophy Race in Cleveland, Ohio. On September 14, 1946 damaged beyond repair and written off at Long Beach Army Airfield in Long Beach, California. Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped.
