Delivered to the United States Navy (USN) as PBY-5 Catalina bureau number 04469. Wartime History Assigned to Patrol Squadron 43 (VP-43). No known nickname, nose art or squadron number. Mission History On August 25, 1942 took off Cold Bay piloted by Lt. Stanley O. Raithel on a flight via NAS Sand Point bound for NAS Kodiak. This aircraft was last seen after take off. When it failed to arrive the entire crew was reported as Missing In Action (MIA). Search Afterwards, the Navy searched the area for three days but found no debris, oil slick or trace of the crew. Memorials The entire crew was officially declared dead the day of the mission. All are memorialized at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) on the courts of the missing.
