Afterwards, flown from Rathmines northward to operate from Tulagi Seaplane Base. On April 29, 1942 while moored off Tulagi Seaplane Base bombed by Japanese seaplanes and seriously damaged. Also damaged was another Catalina. Afterwards, the crew made temporarty repairs to fly back to Rathmines but the damage was too extensive. On April 30, 1942 towed to Aola Bay on the north coast of Guadalcanal. Fate On May 7, 1942 scuttled with explosives into Aola Bay to prevent the damaged Catalina from being captured. References Note, RAAF sources record the date when bombed and damaged as April 30, 1942 incorrectly. RAAF Status Card A-24-23 The First Solomons Air Campaign by Richard Dunn "On the 29th [April] bombs from three flying boats damaged two of three Catalinas (A24-23, seriously damaged was ultimately a write off). R.A.A.F. records indicate the attack occurred the following day; not the only date/time confusion between the accounts of the opposing sides." Contribute
