Aircraft History Built by Boeing as PB2B-2 Catalina. Constructors Number 61159. Assigned US Navy (USN) Bureau Number 44253. Royal Air Force (RAF) serial number JX635. Wartime History Delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Catalina serial number A24-378. On September 8, 1945 assigned to 113 Air Sea Rescue Flight (113 ASRF). No known nickname or nose art. Postwar This Catalina was purchased by Qantas Empire Airways (QEA) and registered in Australia as VH-EAX. Fate On June 24, 1949, while moored off Lord Howe Island this Catalina came free from its mooring and wrecked near shore.
